  • Earned a PhD in astrophysics from Columbia University in 1991.
  • Since 1996, has served as Fredrick P. Rose Director of Hayden Planetarium and
  • Research Associate for Astrophysics Department at American Museum of Natural History since 2003.
  • Has served on number Presidential commissions, NASA Advisory Council,
  • Has published 14 books, numerous research publications, and has earned many awards, including the Public Welfare Medal from the National Academy of Sciences 
  • Many of Tyson's popular works, such as television shows and podcasts, aim to bridge the gap between science and pop culture, to make scientific topics accessible to everyone
