Native Americans and other Indigenous People: Home

This guide provides information and links to sources for information about the first human inhabitants of the Americas and their descendents.

Introduction

This is a guide to sources of information on the people who inhabited the lands now grouped as the Americas before European colonists found them, and the descendants of those first Americans.

Search Terms

While most modern sources tend to use either Native Americans or American Indians, please remember that source may use broader terms, such as indigenous people, or narrower terms, such as the name given to a tribe by English or other settlers (Chippewa), or the names people use to refer to themselves or a group they feel represents them (Ojibwa, Ojibwe, or as one of the tribes of the three fires group, the Anishinaabe).
