Jill Rowan was born in Michigan in 1985. She attended Cranbrook Academy of Art where she received a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2010. Rowan was a Fulbright Scholarship recipient and studied ceramic tile patterning in Syria for seven months. While in Syria she spent her time visiting mosques and teaching art classes, including a semester as an assistant instructor at the Adham Ismail Center of Ceramics in Damascus.
Rowan has used the tiling techniques she learned in the Middle East in her work, with a common theme being the use of colorful stars made of clay to create an interesting effect. Rowan also taught as Adjunct Faculty at SC4.
