Jay Lefkowitz

About Jay Lefkowitz

Jay Lefkowitz was born in 1952 in Southfield, Michigan. He attended the Columbus College of Art and Design graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture. Upon graduation he moved to Paris, then Italy to learn the art of sculpting with marble. He then returned to the United States and earned his Master of Fine Arts in printmaking.
Lefkowitz is a highly respected abstract artist who works in a wide variety of media and styles. His works are displayed in Michigan and Ohio area hospitals, community colleges, art schools and businesses. He has more than 15 years of college level teaching experience, focusing on art theory, 2D and 3D design, sculpture, color concept and drawing. Lefkowitz has taught at Wayne State University, Oakland Community College and the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.

Information on the Jay Lefkowitz sculpture:
Titled Studied Directions, it was dedicated in 1991 and is made of steel. It is located in the circular drive of the college Welcome Center. It was moved from its original location between the College Center and the Fine Arts Building in 2004 to make room for renovation. It is approximately 10 X 12 feet.
