Physically, South Asia is one of the most clearly defined geographic realms, but has a complex cultural geography. It consists of five regions: India at the center, Pakistan to the west, Bangladesh to the east, the mountainous North, and the sourthern region that includes the islands of Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
