SC4 Library is hopping!

 

The college library is located in the center of campus for a reason. It is an activity hub for study, collaboration, social engagement, and support. While you may have used our spaces or browsed our website, you may not realize just how often fellow students, faculty, staff, and community also utilize the array of resources that SC4 Library offers. These numbers represent a brief snapshot of our patrons’ hard work and dedication in the pursuit of knowledge.

16th Annual FreeCollege Day ~ March 31, 2018

 

free college day

 

Free College Day is returning Saturday, March 31, at St. Clair County Community College.

This 16th annual college-wide community outreach program offers a day of free hour-long classes between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the college’s Port Huron campus.

Pre-registration starts online and by phone at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 12. Register online at www.sc4.edu/freecollege, or by phone 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday through March 30 by calling (810) 989-5709. People can register as a walk-in participant if space is available in the College Center on Saturday, March 31.

One-hour classes in many subjects for both children and adults are offered including science, technology, arts, and business. There also are drop-in sessions that require no registration; visit the SC4 Fieldhouse and walk the SC4 Tower, see the artwork at the SC4 Fine Arts Gallery, and check out the hands-on exhibits at the Nasr Natural Science Museum.

Presenters include SC4 faculty, staff and community members who will volunteer their time to share their expertise and experiences with the community.

Classes begin at 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cafeteria is open and you may pre-order a lunch or participants may bring their lunch.

National Library Week ~ April 9-13, 2018

Come see us at the library April 9-13 2018 to celebrate National Library Week. We'll have lots of fun activities, games, prizes, and giveaways.

On Tuesday April 10, 11 am - 1pm, we'll even have friendly dogs in the library ready to play and make your day a little brighter.          dogs in library

We accept only unopened, non-perishable, non-expired items such as snack bars, pretzels, fruit snacks, single-serve items such as easy mac and cheese, heat and serve noodles or soup, peanut butter and crackers, packets of nuts/trail mix, bottled water, etc.

"One randomly selected winner will receive from the ALA a $100 VISA gift card and a copy of "Firebird," the Coretta Scott King Award-winning book by Misty Copeland, 2018 National Library Week Honorary Chair. Library lovers can post to Twitter, Instagram, or on the I Love Libraries Facebook page during National Library Week for a chance to win. Entries can be a picture, video, or text.  Creativity is encouraged. Just be sure to include the hashtags #NationalLibraryWeek and #LibrariesLead on your social media post for a chance to win.

Upcoming Campus Events

  • Registration for Fall semester begins midnight April 9, 2018. You can still register for summer classes now too! Summer classes start May 14.
  • Attend the Human Trafficking Conference from 2:30 pm-5:30 pm. Monday, April 9, in the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre. Best selling author, victim advocate, consultant, founder of S.O.A.P, Theresa Flores, LSW, MS and Officer James Disser of the Port Huron Police Department will be speaking.   • The SC4 Career Fair is 1-4 p.m., Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the SC4 Fieldhouse.  SC4 hosts an on-campus annual Career Fair each Spring. Students, alumni, and community members are welcome.  It is a great opportunity to meet and connect with employers and find out about job opportunities. We also participate in community partnered career fair events as part of services we offer to the community. Job opportunities are posted on Job Connect.   • Support your Skippers athletic teams! Check here for schedules.
  •   SC4 is hosting a Math Camp on three different Fridays, 1 pm-4 pm: April 13, April 20, and April 27 in Room 310 Clara E. McKenzie Building. Have you placed into Math 075 and don't have the time or extra money to take it? Only three short sessions could save you money and a whole semester of work.The cost is $50. To register and for more information, click here.
  • There are several concerts and events coming up in April at the Fine Arts Theatre, including performances by the SC4 Symphonic Band and SC4 Jazz Band on April 21 at 7 pm, as well as the Patterns Award Ceremony and Reception on April 26 at 7pm.
